A preamble- my cousin and I are about to embark on a 3 1/2 week road trip in a camper van, of course during the pandemic. I am not trying to encourage more people to travel during COVID by creating road trip planning guides, staying home is the best option to keeping everyone safe. And while I recognize my hypocrisy in traveling and advising you all not to, we are able to take this trip in a camper-van and be pretty self-contained. We decided to go on this trip knowing how important it would be to #wearamask, keep to outdoor activities, and keep our distance from others. Getting tested before we leave as to not spread it, and avoiding high-risk groups and smaller towns as we go(for instance; we planned to go to Big Bend in Texas, but after reading about hard COVID is hitting the small communities there and how locals do not want tourists, we cancelled those stops yesterday.)
So with all that being said- I wanted to start these travel guides now because of the new insight about road-tripping that I will gain from this trip+past experience. I think it can culminate into something useful.
The guides will be split into camper van vs personal vehicle planning guides and comparisons. I also plan to include information on being safe during COVID travel, and ideas for offsetting the impacts of driving and tourism on the planet.
These guides will be very behind-the-scenes, the challenges and all. I think it’s important for potential travelers, especially road-trippers, to have accurate expectations.
-Travel on!
