Travels Revisited: Galapagos, Santa Cruz Island, 2019

August 20th- Tuesday

Today is my 3rd and final full day on Santa Cruz. We arrived on Sunday and now it’s Tuesday so tomorrow we’re leaving for San Cristobal at 6:30am on a little tiny boat. Today, however, we flipped the work schedule around. We had breakfast st Lo-Lo next to the hotel, then we all met at Tortuga Bay.

This is a big and famous beach with a lot of marine iguanas and then there’s a cove which people snorkel and kayak in. So we walked around, took pictures of the silly iguanas that just lay out in the sun all day long and then walked up this big hill that tourists are not allowed on so that we could get a better vantage point. You could see both the beach and the bay, even though it was a little cloudy. I saw 2 blue footed boobies!!

Once we finished working we had an hour of free time. One park ranger decided we should all kayak- so we shared a kayak and actually saw a couple sea turtles pop their heads out of the water. Kayaking was really fun. Then we came back for lunch at The Rock with all the rangers we were with that morning.

The presentation in the afternoon is part of my data research so I had to talk about it but one of the rangers was really interested in how I organized my data, which was really cool! We went to a craft brewery to celebrate! I had a passion fruit beer it was really good.
