May 16th: Zion NP > Jackson, WY
The drive into Jackson through the Bridger-Teton Forest was beautiful, and views from Jackson of the Gros Ventre Mountains were awesome. We ended up eating at Sidewinder Cafe, a restaurant featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. It was really delicious. Also, a new Target just opened in Jackson, so we had to check that out.

We began our first full day in Jackson by riding horses! The outdoor recreation season has almost started, but we’re a couple weeks early, because the weather has just started warming up. Only one ranch was offering horseback rides this early, Spring Creek. They are basically in Jackson, but the views from the ride were still really awesome. We rode for 2 hours for only $90, with views of the East Gros Ventre Butte, the Teton Range, and Jackson. The guide was also really great and told us about the area- which is pretty interesting, there’s a lot of millionaires and billionaires here, which I did not know! Specifically due to so many millionaires and billionaires that live here, ”Teton County has the highest concentration of wealth per household than any other county in the nation” https://www.wyomingpublicmedia.org/business/2022-01-25/teton-county-has-highest-concentration-of-wealth-per-household-than-any-other-county-in-the-nation
After a lesson in the economics of a small, mountain town, we packed up and headed to our campsite in Grand Teton NP. We stayed at Gros Ventre Campground, more on the outskirts of the park (southeast side). There’s many campsites in the park, this one was nice & wasn’t booked up! Still in a good location, about 20 mins from Jackson, and 20 mins from Jenny Lake. Jenny Lake was our first stop in the park today. There‘s a nice 6 ish mile loop that connects to longer hikes and Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point, but there’s also a shuttle boat for $12 one way, $20 round trip, that takes you across the lake to access those hikes. Hidden Falls is only .5 from the dock, and Inspiration Point is a mile. Jenny Lake is beautiful! We were surprised by the clear, blue glacier water. After Jenny Lake, we did 3 mile loop to Taggart Lake.

May 18th: Grand Teton NP
Today we visited the Craig Thomas Discovery & Visitor Center, Jenny Lake, and Colter Bay Visitor Center. We did a short hike to Leigh Lake and String Lake, 2 miles, and admired the beautiful, snow covered, Teton Mountain range from the scenic drive by Jenny Lake and Jackson Lake Lodge. So much snow still on the ground and trails!

Camping tonight was chilly! Lows in the 40s due to the winter storm coming through the state. Luckily, I had my new 15 degree sleeping bag from REI. We did wake up to rain in the morning. First rainy day since we left 2 weeks ago from Raleigh! 2 weeks flies by.
