Prague, Czech Republic 2019, Week 3 Again

May 2019-

Trying to start blogging every day or every couple days. I ventured to Tesco after class to buy some groceries. Big differences between here and the U.S. include how quickly you have to move through the line at the store. Grocery stores here are also quite interesting, they are usually on the bottom floor of a big shopping center or mall, in train stations, and in the basements of buildings. They don't use plastic bags which is really nice. The Czech stores also have huge meat selections, you can find things like rabbit, pork, lots of beef, turkey, duck, and a lot more meat that is never usually easily available in the U.S. They also do not have a lot of snack food in terms of processed foods and there's a TON of bread. Fresh bread, rolls, baguettes, everything. In general, I would say the food here is much fresher, even vegetables and things go bad pretty quickly comparatively. Also the beer and wine culture is very different here than in the States. Pilsner is a popular Czech beer because it is brewed in Pilzen, Czech Republic, and it is very cheap, under 2 or 3 dollars usually only 30-50 koruna. They also drink about a half a liter to a liter at a time. My favorite discovery is spritzers. Aperol spritz's are super popular here, even though they are Italian. It's an orange type drink. But the beer culture is big here. Beer is cheaper than water, and water is hard to find and expensive at restaurants usually.

I have some places in Praha that I might dedicate some time to after lunch. I want to go to Praha 3, apparently it's trendy and cool, I want to do Petrin Park and the Lennon wall, I want to go back to the Prague Castle, and I need to see the Vysherad castle and park, I would also like to see the city park.

These photos are from the NC State Prague Center where we are studying.

11:30pm.. I only made it to VNTRIOBLOCK for some carrot cake and tea because I think I am getting sick which puts a real damper on my plans! But tomorrow we are going to Hemingway Bar at 8pm. It's a reservation only cocktail bar. I think I'll try my luck with Prague 3 after class.

May 28th-I did catch the bad cold going around so I took the day off class, unfortunately. I don't have time to be sick here!
