Tucson, AZ

Updated: Dec 21, 2020

Tucson! Surrounded by 6 mountain ranges & home to Arizona State University, Saguaro National Park, and so. much. food. Like so much. Tuscon is the City of Gastronomy. We couldn't try it all but we did grab some takeout from popular local spots and were able to walk the streets downtown masked up! There was almost no one out this afternoon.

Looking for the best southern/american food in Tucson?- Try The Parish. We had the hushpuppies, Smokin' Angel Pasta, & bread pudding!

Tucson is known for their Mexican food- there's way too much to try! & Sonoran hot dogs, which are bacon-wrapped hot dogs.

Just a few highly rated options! There are 10000 more to choose from.

  • Boca Tacos & Tequila

  • El Minidito

  • Pico de Gallo- homemade corn tortillas!

  • Saint Mary's

  • El Charro

Downtown Tucson is split into districts, Congress Street, Historic Fourth Avenue, Presidio, Main Gate, Sentinel, Convention Center.

Historic Fourth Avenue has many shops, cafes, breweries, & restaurants. The HUB has classic american food and ice cream.

Congress Street is home to Hotel Congress, built in 1918, and infamous for being the spot of the capture of the gangster and bank robber John Dillinger in 1934. Across from Hotel Congress is the Rialto Theater, which opened in 1920.

Old Town Artisans in the Presidio district is right next to the art museum and has all kinds of unique and locally-made finds.

After spending a day in Saguaro National Park east or west, head into downtown Tucson for Mexican food, shopping at Old Town Artisans, and coffee at one of the 100 cafe options. Like the Eclectic Cafe, 5 points market, Bisbee Breakfast Club, Blue Willow, or the Cafe a la C'art by the Art Museum.

Now, many of these places have adjusted hours and are closed for COVID. We didn't get to try everything, but spent a lot of time searching on the Tucson Dining Guide (like a lot of time) for good takeout options + places with spacious outdoor seating options. I think it would take years to eat at every restaurant here.

The Cacti are still my favorite part of Tucson.
